I need a knife sharpener to take to deer camp and because cutting deer-hide seems to always dull a sharp knife, and remembered my dad's smith's wet stone, I went a little crazy sharpening all the knifes in the house, -LCB- and getting a big kiss from the little woman -RSB- and have to say that the tool works much better than I expected, is that it is always a good idea to apply a thin coat of cooking oil to the knife blade before starting to sharpen.it helps to float the steel that the sharpener removes so they do not dull the blade you are trying to sharpen

I would not use this for more than a folding pocket knife, I'm glad I'm using my cheap folding knife to use on it, But for a down and dirty edge this may help but like I said, I can't seem to get a razor sharp edge on my folding knife but the thing is so tiny like another reviewer said it makes it unstable so maybe that is my problem, This thing is about the size of my middle finger in length, down and dirty in the field on an already sharp knife, otherwise I recommend getting a more durable sharpener personally

It does a pretty good job of putting a sharp edge on a small knife, I tested this with my small pocket knife and I was really pleased, The knife was starting to get a little dull but didn't have any major chunks removed, it took me about ten minutes of filing down and checking until I was satisfied with the edge being sharp, I have not had a chance to use the tapered rod on the side for a serrated knife

Coarse slot for really dull edges and ceramic for finishing edges or touchup, I really like the diamond rod for sharping tools that have unusual blades that don't fit well on the V type sharpeners, and small blades can be sharpened with the rod, I have a package blade that is very small and I was able to put a very nice edge on it quickly

Not too often do I buy something that is actually of excellent quality, I use it for my entire folding knife collection and both in service -LRB- rescue -RRB- knives, And one more thing ... I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to a sharp blade, When the knife is as sharp as a particular sharpener will make it ...

Handy little sharpener, Based on the reviews I was expecting idiot-proof ability to make my blades razor-sharp with a few draws, I like the flip-out sharpener, It's a nice small size, I leave it on the shelf and every now and then seeing it prompts me to sharpen blades a little during my free time

some of the less expensive pocket knives that get used for opening cardboard boxes or other daily repetitive tasks tend to dull quicker than the nicer knives, I want to get a couple more so I can keep them in places where if the knife happens to be getting dull

I've always been bad at sharpening knives on a wet stone, and the edge sharp properly, cheap knife I received as a gift many years ago, That knife is so sharp I can shave my excessively hairy arm, which I have never been able to do with any knife

It'll bring your blade edge back to the point of being able to shave the hair off your arm, is small enough to carry in a pocket and functions well enough to keep your blade functionally sharp
